Default Royal Ulster Rifles Title (RUR)

Hi all,

Could this be a genuine WW2 Royal Ulster Rifles title embroidered version ?
I saw a few exemple of the printed version here which was worn by 6th Airborne. I read some were still wearing the embroidered version.

Many thanks in advance.

It certainly looks genuine, but it is hard to put an exact date on them.

But appart from that. I haven't found any other reference of the embroidered one on the forum.

I found another exemple of this title listed on Ebay with this description:
The Royal Ulster Rifles
Embroidered Black on Green
Mills 4222 refers
Worn post 1955.
I don't have John Mills book to check the reference.

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/295382466...mis&media=COPY

Listed as well on another website as this: Royal Ulster Rifles Embroidered Shoulder Titles 1921-1968

Pretty vague. I know after checking paradata and a few archives photos that Airborne were wearing in 1942-1944 light blue on black titles and then printed version RUR titles. I didn't see any evidence of the ones I posted being worn.

On the 17/10/21 I posted a photo of my Royal Ulster Rifles airborne badges. The officers beret badge, the light blue on dark blue embroidered shoulder title and the rifle green backed blue glider badge.
Unfortunately due to sausage fingers the title of the post reads “Royal Uster Rifles” which means it doesn’t show up in searches.

Someone else must have had sausage fingers when they produced this Royal Uslster Constabulary Remembrance badge.

I just found those lines in Peter Taylor's book «*Allied Special Forces Insignia 1939-1948.*»:
«*The 1st title was dark green with black lettering ROYAL ULSTER RIFLES. This was worn until mid-1942, after which the second title was worn. This was light blue ROYAL ULSTER RIFLES on a dark blue background and was discontinued in December 1943. After this date they reverted to the black on green title.*»

It's not completely true as in December 1943 they switched to the green on black printed title version not back to the first version.
Would be good to know when this first version started to get worn.

They were already wearing the blue typo on black version in August 1942.

Well I think a lot of people would agree with that comment and not just about that particular entry in the book! Tall tales indeed.
