Australian Army Military Instructor Badges
I have looked at the images on this thread, and cannot ever remember seeing them, certainly not during the period from mid 50 to mid 90s, so when were they awarded and worn
I do recall a badge, brass coloured, in the 50s and 60s, that disappeared when the Aust Army got rid of most of the embellishments from our uniform, that was a Qualified Instructor badge, it was brass, the letters QI and awarded to any soldier who attained a C pass or better at an Army training course where one of the aims of the course was to train those attended as Instructors in whatever the course was, so if you did a Supervisor Transport course for example, and one of the aims was to qualify you as a driving instructor, and you attained the level C or above, then you earned a QI badge. That badge went out at the same time we stopped wearing corps and formation signs on khaki drill (KD) uniforms, about 1964 I think that was, and the army adapted jungle green uniforms instead of KD, and the polyester shirts/trousers were issued at that time as well. |

I think the MI badge first came into use in the mid to late 1990s.

Australian Military Instructor badges
those MI badges must have been after I retired in 93, have never seen them, even at the many military parades and other functions I attend. I have seen a badge that I was told mean Recruit Instructor, (RI) but not this one, so maybe they are rarely issued, like the QI badge
would be interested if somebody has a QI (Qualified Badge) to sell I had one of the badges, went to Malaya, left stuff with friends, and when we returned my box of stuff was missing, so I never ever trust people to look after stuff for me again, I always put it in store and remember to pay the storeage fees on time. |

The RI badge is still worn these days by some people - a mate of mine who is an instructor at RMC prefers his RI badge over his MI badge
The MI badge is worn by instructors in all the various Corps Schools, ARTC, RMC etc. Mick
