Gentlemen

I await the Liverpool regt aficionados' opinions but it looks OK to me. I think it was used by cadets for some time after the 6th Bn's demise.

It looks perfectly good to me, though I think it's later than 1st War. They should have been gone in 1937 but there were only finally made obsolete in the ?1950s (I have a reference somewhere).

The badge was worn by the Merchant Taylor's School, Crosby, Combined Cadet Force Army Contingent (affiliated to 5 King's then the Lancastrian Volunteers) until at least 1969. Here I am wearing it in August 1969!

It looks as though I posted this on here before somewhere !
The unit continued to wear the original badge because govt documents note that Gaunt made 3,228 6th Bn badges between 1939 and 1946. The badge is listed (and illustrated) in the CCN of 1949 where it is noted that the unit actually ceased to exist on conversion to the RE “but the badge of the old unit is still worn” under the terms of the 1937 ACI. Finally, the badge was declared obsolete in the LoC of 1958. After this date, it was clearly reserved for cadet units – though I haven’t found official records for them yet. The best we have is Tim’s photograph ! |

Not much to add, although ironically I picked up an example of this badge yesterday.
The backing should be oval not round ( see picture ) GGA has some interesting information about a badge worn by one of the officers and the rank slide that he wore. When the Merchant Taylors CCF ceased to wear the old 6th Kings badge, a dealer acquired all the old badges. The 6th Kings "supposedly" adopted the R.E. badge on conversion ( see programme from the opening or their new drill hall on 20th June 1938 attached ).Also stated in the Centenary booklet produced by 287th Medium Rgt R.A. T.A. " Normal R.E. dress was the order for all ranks...." There was an ACF unit badged to the 6th Kings. See "The White Horse and Fleur De Lys" Summer 1972. In the notes for the 7th Cadet battalion,The Kings Regiment it states " D Coy ( Formby ) is affiliated to the Royal Green Jackets and are badged as Liverpool Rifles ( one time 6th Kings ) P.B.

Leigh,
West Lancs Army Cadet Force. I think in the 1970`s there was a reoganisation and The Lancashire ACF and Merseyside ACF were formed and the West Lancs ACF ceased to exist. P.B.
