Default 1st VB Somerset badge

Guys
is it normal for this badge to have the lugs placed diagonally as opposed to directly horizontal/vertical?
Is this a capbadge or collar (seems kinda large for a collar) andwhat sort of year.1st VB Somerst.JPG

1st VB Somerst rear.jpg
Regards
Jon

Hi Jon,

I have had a look in Churchill's book on collars and this is NOT the pattern of the collar badge of the 1st VB Somerset.

". . . they (1st VB Somerset) adopted a special collar badge, a mural crown on which was superimposed "1VB", over a strung bugle horn. A scroll above the crown was inscribed "SOMERSET". In White metal the pattern was sealed 17th March 1885 under Ref./V/1 Somerset/333. The castellations of the crown are both voided and unvoided (Fig 437). Officers wore similar but in silver plate."

So pressumably a cap badge.

Regards

Ian

Thankyou Ian for your help.
It is quite large but i got it with a lot of collars and a few capbadges so assumed it was a collar.
Many thanks again
Jon

Possibly a side cap badge.

I have one the same which came, with others, from an old lady who's dad had collected them as a boy in Bath (1VB is Bath). I thought it was possibly for the side cap as when worn at the typical jaunty angle the badge would look correct.

Hi Jon,
My hat badge is the same as yours, shown here alongside a collar badge.
Cheers, Tinto

Default Nice to have IDed

Thanks for the heads up guys.
When we say Sidecap, are we referring to WW2 forage cap, or earlier?
Nice to see an example of the collar also.
Happy Christmas.
