End of an era.
Hi All
2022 appears to be the year that the Yeomanry Squadrons lay up their Guidons and assume the Regimental identity of the new Cap badge. The LDYPAO will be laying up the Guidon on the 14th of May this year...... a sad day.

Please explain. Does this mean that the Yeomanry will disappear into something else and what cap badge will that be?

Nonetheless it is still unfortunate. Sadly I think in my lifetime it will end with each of the Home Nations having one Regiment plus The Guards. Chancellors and budgets destroy more regiments than wars. |

While I acknowledge the reasons, it is nonetheless a shame. The Army's link to it's history is already very tenuous at best.

The new Royal Yeomanry Guidon that will be held by HQ Squadron in London. The Battle honours, not all, being taken from the individual Regiment Squadrons.

Whilst it's a shame to see the linegae go I am afraid it is inevitable. If the likes of the Argyles and the Royal Scots can go, the cavalry be merged beyond recognition and the rest of the infantry pared down then it's expected.

I was under the impression that the Royal Yeomanry have had a Regimental Guidon along with the Royal Wessex Yeomanry ever since they gave up their cap badges some years ago. The RWY definately do.
What the individual squadrons then do with their old Regimental Guidons is down to them. I know the Royal Wiltshire Yeomanry Guidon requires some minor repairs but because it is no longer an offical inservice Guidon they cannot access the individuals who normally manufacture and repair the armies colours. It will never be laid up in a church and left to rot which has been the unfortunate fate of many historic Colours. Hopefully those days are gone. |

Indeed but they all didn’t go into ‘The Royal Yeomanry’ which I was replying to.

That is very disappointing.
I believe there are still a few Sqn guidons in use - certainly the Essex Yeo one is and likely the others within 71 Signals. Though I suspect their days too will be numbered. |
