Default RTR Officer Cap Badge

I have seen this on line and it is noted as the size of the collar.

Did officers a silver and gilt cap badge? if so what dates and what dress?

Thanks

Chris

Chris, I think this is a collar badge.
Jerry.
See you at Farnham tomorrow?

I've seen two examples of a sil/gilt cap badge on a frame in the Tank Museum.

Hi Chris, in the 1929 Dress Regulations, I think, it says officers would wear a silver and gilt badge, shilling size. This would equate with a collar badge size. The one I have came from a pre-war collection and is a first pattern J.R. Gaunt right facing collar badge. There is no evidence that I know of that such a badge was worn and it may be a cock up describing the introduction of the collar badge. If any one has a photo of it being worn or the proverbial full size bi-metallic cap badge for that matter, I would be more than pleased as it would settle a long running mystery about both badges. Personally I think the full size one was a creation in the 70's of London dealer/ jeweler. Maybe it was the drugs, it certainly was a fun decade, best wishes Mike

I remember forum member Jim McLean buying worn gilt and silver King's Crown RTR insignia shown on a militaria forum about 15 years ago - I can't remember if the cap badge was gilt and silver or just the collar dogs - I'll PM him, see what was what.

My grandfather, Mjr Wallis Mattinson served in the RTC/RTR 1923-42. Have looked through the family photos of him in uniform and can confirm,
1. The badge worn in the beret was always full size
2. None appear to be bi-metal/ silver gilt

The sil/gilt cap badges in the Tank museum were cap badge size, one had the hackle behind it.
