Default WANTED: Yorkshire Dragoons separate Y and D shoulder title

Hello,
Probably an impossibility, but I'm after the Yorkshire Dragoons metal shoulder title that is a separate Y and D, as in the picture.
Hopefully someone has a rocking horse that leaves little surprises ha ha.
Thank you for your time

Chris

Chris,

Interested to read this and see a period photo relating to YD.
Tunic is a 1902 pattern Other Ranks Service Dress and judging by title on epaulette this photo will be pre 1908.
Can you show the complete photo? Be good to see other insignia /ribbon bars etc.

From memory, separate Y D was one of the titles worn before issue of T Y Yorkshire Dragoons, will take a look and see what I have.

Pat

The title YD is mentioned in Westlake but not shown, but if pre- 1908 would be an IY title?

Was QOYDIY worn prior to 1908?

regards

Hello,
The photo was taken in 1910, it's on the shoulder of my Great Grandfather.
He became Permanent Staff SSM in 1910 to D Squadron ( Huddersfield ). His line Regiment being the 3rd Dragoon guards.
He is on the left of the picture.
I have a number of YD photos, two taken in 1915, the soldiers are sporting mainly one piece T Y Yorkshire Dragoons titles, there are some wearing just the curved Yorkshire Dragoons title, some with the latter with a separate TY above and 5 have the two separate letters Y D titles, the one I'm after.
Unfortunately I've been asked not to show this photo online.
I was going to PM Pat with the photo of my Great Grandfather, but I'll show it to you all as I've put it on the GWF anyway.
Cheers
Chris

Cracking photo.

I thought it must be TF and not pre 1908 IY

Chris,

Nice photo; thanks for showing it and interesting to read the family association.
The other photo(s) you mention; as is often the case, a mixture of insignia worn whether “official” for the period or otherwise 😁.

Not all Yeomanry regiments wore an IY title, the Yorkshire Dragoons one example (to the best of my knowledge).
I’ve seen other photos, one dated, that show YD worn on the epaulet prior to 1908.

Westlake notes Yeomanry titles worn in time chronological order, the initial or abbreviated examples patterns usually refers to post WW2. He also states In many Instances titles of this pattern (but usually Found larger In size) were worn much earlier and not many examples are shown in the book.

Not able to access boards tonight so old photos from iPad will have to do. Photos show most YD titles.

The one piece example 2nd one down is earliest - Boer War period, sheet brass with thin wire loops.

Separate YD plus another example with rose* worn until issue of T Y Yorkshire Dragoons.
*- not convinced by this as not seen in a period photograph and was found on a generic type multi slotted backing plate so may be artistic license although front / reverse finish and lugs on title letters are consistent. Never say never though.

T /YD: again an unofficial title worn post 1908 until issue of the full scroll version.

Hope this is of interest.

Chris, I’ll send you a pm about the item you asked about.

Pat

Chris,

Thanks for comments.
Got to the board so here’s better photos of the title in question.

Marc,

Nice to see that title again.
Think it may have been a trial pattern before adoption of Yorks Dragns.
Still looking for that one ....have kept a space in my display 😁.
