I have two photos of RMF soldiers wearing ‘grenade/bomb’ collar badges one during WW1 the other immediately post circa 1919. The jacket in Shiny’s photo is an iteration of the 1902 pattern which was largely unchanged in appearance from its inception until the early 1960s( double darts, and simplified versions aside) The post WW1 jackets have acquired a completely spurious ‘22 pattern’ designation largely from the collector community.

Regards

Mark

The other tell tale sign that makes dating easy is that collar badges were worn at an angle to the collar points between the wars on OR service dress.

Thanks Mark,

So are we now saying that this could be the father in WW1 again?

The RMF didn't wear collar dogs as shown in the photo in question.

No Michael, the photo you have is RE post WW1. I was commenting that Some RMF soldiers wore collar badges in WW1 and responding to the discussion about the type of jacket and period it was worn.
