Hi,
Although I'm not familiar with this badge I think that Alex is right and that this badge is for the Indian Navy. Between 1892 - 1934 the Indian Navy was known as the Royal Indian Marine. In 1934 it became the Royal Indian Navy and adopted British badges rather than it's own unique insignia. As your badge has a King's Crown it must therefore date to between 1902 and 1934. Pete

Hi Barry,
Thanks for the info re the NAV buttons. You say that prior to 1889 they used RNAV buttons. Were these the silver ones with the gilt crown and anchor? Nice buttons but the silver tarnished really badly! Pete

Hi Barry.
The original RNAV buttons were silver with a gilt crown and anchor and not the other way around (see image below). Don't worry - an easy mistake to make  And then, they changed to all gilt because the silver tarnished really badly. Really interesting to know that they were also worn in New Zealand. Many thanks!
