Thanks Mike. Do you know the time period for the post war for the embroidered titles? (That is a tough question, but sometimes the information is out there.)

Hi Bill,

My best estimate is the first embroidered is a late 1940's to early 1950's style and the second is a late 1950's to early 1960's style.

There are so few samples to compare them to...in fact when I visited the Chaudiere Museum this Summer they had the first embroidered one I have as one of the Shoulder Titles on Display for the Second World War Period. I will post up some pictures I took at the Museum of their Titles...just have to resize them.

Hi Bill,

Here are some pictures I took at the Museum this summer.

The first 3 are of the Various Shoulder Titles they have on display with the date of use.

The fourth one is on the Tunic they have on display...it has some kind of Orange border around it..not seen that before.

The last 2 are actually on a display at the War Museum in Ottawa...it is supposed to represent what a Canadian Infantry Soldier looked like on D-Day...absent are the 3rd Div Formation Patch

Hello Mike and Folks,
These patches and cloth titles (right and left arms are identical) were worn at Bernieres-sur-Mer on DDay. I got them in the 70s when I was a young boy from a good school chap. His father was 10 years old in August 1944 and collected a full biscuit tin box of badges from Canadien soldiers in rest at Bernieres! Unfortunatly I lost contact with him for long time and I don't know what the tin box has become... Cheers. J-F

Nice examples of the printed title. This evidence would indicate that the Chaudière wore the printed and not the embroidered title at the time of Normandy.

when ever I see that white fluffy backing it sends up the fantasy flag..the title looks bad to me..

I concur with Mike R....this is a Fantasy Piece due to the Backing material. Perhaps Bill A can give us a better description of this Backing material.

The front of this Title is based upon a known Second World War type/variant. I have attached an authentic Title both Front and Back for comparison. In an article I wrote for the latest CSMMI Journal I identified this Title as TYPE 4 British Made.

That type of backing came into use in the 1990's. The titles may be CF dress titles. But they are not SWW.

Hmm...on what uniform would "CF dress titles" be worn? I was under the impression that metal titles were worn in DEU and coloured titles (with swiss-embroidered edges) were worn on Garrison Dress? All the GD titles I've seen were done in "modern" materials, i.e. shiny (nylon) thread with the aforementioned edging.

There has been at least one very active contingent of Chaudière re-enactors in Canada, though this is not an accusation. I have no idea if they used original or replica insignia, just that their standards of authenticity were quite high and may present another avenue of thought to explore.
