I have a motto with that mark, it was given to me forty years ago by a friend who was stationed at Catterick.

Unless I’m mistaken thought I read on here somewhere these London Ltd marks were dubious appearing on a lot of authorised but never issued Territorial badges?
I’ve an SAS badge with this mark, I doubt it’s been near Hereford. |

Luke,
I tried a search before starting this thread (or buying the badge) and I found nothing, in fact I only found one thread that mentioned this marking but did find it listed in Chris's book as shown in post #2

I can't remember the details from "the" book, not in a position to check - did the mark have a legitimate life but get "resurrected" in more recent times?

"A rare Gaunt marking without the full stop following ‘LTD’. The body of the letter ‘J’ in ‘J.R.’ is usually faint and the bottom of the ‘G’ in ‘GAUNT’ is flat. Date of use is unknown but a badge, with this mark, has been discovered in the Imperial War Museum, London on a standard sealed pattern tag, pattern No. 20901, for the Honourable Artillery Company (TA) (Infantry - WO1, Staff Sergeants and Sergeants) dated 25th March 1974. Regards, Chris"

Thank you. I see from a quick look that some have the full stop after which is classed as a different mark, I shall have a better look tomorrow. Officially manufactured but not issued seems fine to me.

It looks like there were a few regiments / corps with the "LTD" no "." mark which were flying under the radar ......
