Default Bad Hallmark on Scottish Badge

Hello Guys. This American collector bought this badge with 14 day return period. I am posting as a warning to others.
The badge is a die stamped enlisted man's that appears to be silver (tested with the white paper and the Clorox Bleach tests) and has silver loops.
The problem is that the hallmarks are on a separate silver tablet and carefully soldered onto the badge. Has anyone ever seen a separate hallmark, or is that illegal in UK? Has anyone seen a series of these badges, or is this a one-off.
I bought this from an jewelry resale shop in UK selling on Etsy - so he certainly has the skill to add the hallmark tablet. Paid 60 GBP, but it is the principle of someone creating these badges,
Showed it to another collector and he raised concern about separate tablet rather than hallmarks on badge.
Pic 1 shows a close-up of the tablet.
Any comments would be appreciated - Thanks

Firstly its a fake 'silver' badge as the hallmark should be in the metal of the item, as you have said.

Secondly its not a genuine set of hallmarks, just someones interpretation of what hallmarks should look like.

Not seen another but watch this space.

Very poor attempt and shouldnt fool most collectors.

regards

I would think a "bad" badge, it certainly looks to be of recent manufacture, get a refund.

Never mind the hallmark the front of the badge is something only a blind person would be glad to see.

Thanks for all the feedback guys - I would expect that more of these will show up. Back it goes to "Scottiavintagejewelry" on Etsy based in Keith UK.

Glad to hear that, £60 is an awful lot of hard earned money for something that is completely spurious.

I'm under the impression HLI officers badges are multi part silver/gilt, so who would've worn an all silver badge?

So why buy this in the first place??? 60 GBP buys you a lot of reference books.

Experience doesn't come overnight and these b*****s peddle these things to catch the unwary. Even a reference book won't give you this info, at least not one I have ever seen. Most of my knowledge about stuff like this came from the good members of the forum!
Jeff - you should report the vendor to ebay for selling a fake hallmarked badge!
Cheers,
Alex
