Several Divisions adopted a similar practice - a small version of the red Div HQ pennant in felt worn below the formation sign by Div staff and a dark blue pennant usually in felt below the sign for wear by Bde HQ. Ironically one of the hardest variations of the Wyvern to find is the painted early WW2 version in decent condition.
Can you please post an example of the hardest to find variation painted early WW2 version? Is it already posted on this thread somewhere? Thank you.

Oriskany: Scroll up to Old Smelly's wyv2 image - five examples there; three worn and a mint pair.

The printed examples at the bottom of this picture are reputed to be the first pattern of printed badge but I have yet to see the evidence to prove this.

My current assumption unless someone is going to correct me is that there are three patterns of printed Wyverns.

R. 5 Wilts, 129 Inf Bde (post Jun 42) (This example worn by the CO in early 1945)

Default Wessex Wyvern

After seeing all the examples of the different Wyverns in the previous examples I wondered why I didnt have a painted version or one with red or blue claws etc. As you may have seen I went to a local auction and bought amongst other badges a painted Wyvern and blow me that night on ebay was a Wyvern with red bits, which I bid on and bought.Very strange how these things come about, John.

Another over-woven printed badge which seems like quite a common practice.

Although I prefer the printed ones, I think this is a good WOII edition, but would like to hear other members opinions

Is the material quite stiff on this badge like mine?
