Default MC. 37 24th Grey's Horse capbadge

Does anyone know why the "cypher-type device" on the pre-1914 Canadian Militia "Grey's Horse" capbadge is a Ukraininan "tryzub" (a Ukraininan version of a Holy Trinity symbol)?
