Memorial Service Programme 1915
An interesting and historical item of ephemera that was retrieved from among a Lot of various old photos.
I am scanning the 4 pages for completeness. GTB |

Hi GTB
Thank you for that. Nice find. In Malta?? It appears to be from Halifax, Nova Scotia based on the names of persons and units involved. Princess Louise Fusiliers and Halifax Rifles still exist as Reserve Units. Your booklet is worth $20 from John Doull Booksellers. regards Darrell

Hi Darrell
Thanks for feedback. How moving that the memorial service was held relatively early in the War. The Great War is my period of choice for memorabilia. Yes, I bought it in Malta but from an English collector holidaying here and who had brought all sorts of stuff with him for sale/trade, including Victorian and WW1 photos and ephemera. Will be posting some other stuff on appropriate threads. Rgds GTB |

Hi GTB
You are welcome. Yes, it is moving and you are right; 9 May 1915 is quite early for Canadians in action. It makes sense at this point in time that such an organized event of this size for casualties in such a small number relative to the following couple of years. Patriotism was high and the large and constant and growing casualty lists were yet to come. I too enjoy this period when it comes to militaria in general. Happy to see your other bits. regards Darrell

Hi Darrell
Would you know if "The Arena" mentioned in the programme is still extant? GTB |

Hi GTB
Sorry but I do not. I am not particularly familiar with Halifax but don't think its likely. I did have a very brief look online to see where it was (I assumed it was gone) and found more more mentions in adverts etc. Ultimately, however, I did not discover its location. regards Darrell

Darrell,
Not to worry. I had also googled and came up with 3 (modern?) arenas and a host of images but nothing conclusive. Thanks GTB |
