Thanks for the replies. What I really need is to pick someone's brain for a few minutes. I have no knowledge of these beasts and need to get Helmet Plate 101. i.e., why are some units in silver and others in gilt? Which units had the Tercentenary HPs? Which units continued to wear the Blue or Green helmet after the White helmet was authorized, and a bunch of questions that I don't even know enough to ask. If you want to chat for a few minutes PM your phone number and the local time which would be most convenient and I will call.
Cheers,
Clive

Hi Clive, IIRC there was an article or a list of Tercentenary helmet plates listed in a publication about 20 years ago. It may have been the long defunct Miltary Police Historical Society? (or some similar name).
The tercentenary plates do not exist for every regiment, but again I am not sure which ones were not issued.

Unfortunately, I have n ot been able top properly study the subject but I believe that these Tercentenary HPs should correctly only appear on the white Universal Pattern helmet that displays a significant 'flare' to the side brim, while the earliest Victorian plates should only appear on the slab-sided helmets. Just when the helmet patterns transitioned is yet to be discovered although a study of the plates (albeit not conclusive) would help greatly.
