Is the badge on the tunic two shields, so could be a red cross and St. John’s badge.

There is a fascinating photo that you can see on the Australian War Memorial website of an Australian VAD serving in Britain in WW1. Her name was Ada Hogg and there is a photo of her uniform also. Her badges were as shown in attachment, a VAD/Red Cross cap badge and an incredibly rare rising sun VAD collar badge pair worn only worn in Britain.
PS Let me know if anyone has a spare rising sun collar badge in a drawer somewhere! There should be some still around in UK where they were worn.
