ww1 good conduct badge
I am looking for a picture please of a ww1 good conduct badge to a man who served in the royal marines so i'm guessing a Naval issue.
If anyone has a picture i would be very grateful to see it. Thanks Brett

The WW1 Army Good Conduct 'Badge' was in fact an inverted chevron worn on the left forearm and awarded for increasing increments of blemish free service. The style of chevron was simply that used for rank, but worn upside down. It could only be worn by soldiers and marines below the rank of (full) Corporal which at that time was the lowest 'substantive' rank. All 'Lance' titles were 'appointments' and paid at the lower rank whilst awaiting a vacancy in the next higher rank. They were thus, in effect, on probation. In 1914-18 the RMLI and RMA were largely dressed and accoutred as per the Army. The first chevron was for 2-years, the second for 5 and others were added for various years thereafter up until the 18-year point.
