The unfortunate buyer. He is also a good customer of a well know cloth faker. Should we send him an invite to the forum or wold that be rubbing salt into the wounds?

That badge is going to go for a lot of money. The question is more whether it will go into a collection or end up being bought by a delaer and sent to Boselys.

As to whether the Somerset Light Infantry was A/A, Franklin Mint or chromed is anyones guess.

Hi Alan,

The thing is that although this badge is from the rarer group of A/A badges within this 'rare' bunch it is still relatively common. There are far rarer badges than this out there which are usually missed.

I actually need one of these but I'm too tight to spend silly money on it preferring to possible swap for some rare pieces that I have. My latest acquisition, which I received this week, was a fair dinkum genuine Jewish Chaplains badge which has to be one of the rarest (if not the rarest) badge in A/A land. Although its official Firmin packet was mislaid I managed to source an image of badge and packet before it was posted on to me and the badge reconciles with others in manufacturing technique that I have seen.

It cost me 20 quid from a dealer...

Regards

Chris

The badge on Ebay was part of a small collection up for sale. Eventually went for 33.

But it looks like it may not be an AA...

Images show a genuine AA Somerset Light Infantry cap badge, on the left and the Ebay badge on the right, for comparison.

Yes, when you look at the two images William has posted this seems like a chromed earlier Somerset L.I. badge or a Franklin mint badge as it is the wrong shape.
