The two glossy ones of mine date from 1975 and I am guessing that the K.S.L.I. is about 10 years early.

The Copthorne Barracks in Shrewsbury are now history having recently being almost completely demolished for housing.

The LI are history, the Fusiliers almost so.
The Fusiliers in the poster are Recce Platoon 1st Bn, training in the area of Oakington Barracks, about 5 miles from Cambridge and being developed as the new "large town" (the largest built since Milton Keynes) of Northstowe.

Not a poster but accurate at the time.

""Come join the British army" Said the posters in his town
"See the world and have your fun, come serve before the crown"
The jobs were hard to come by and he could not face the dole
So he took his country's shilling and enlisted on the roll.

Soldier by Harvey Andrews (1972)

I was planning on seeing him in concert in Cyprus in 1978.
Unfortunately jankers prevented me.

Strangely, from talking to some younger pongo acquaintances recently, the view is that its working and recruitment is up.

Either that or someone's massaging the unemployment figures and they're all desperate for a change from flipping burgers and selling trainers on zero-hour contracts...
