The Military Gentleman
I wanted to purchase a Guards badge from the above website at £1250. I asked if i could pay over 10 months, the website owner asked if i could pay over 6 months. I then offered a one off offer of £1100, i just got a loan. He said that was ok in principle, and then said he had some Guards SBP's and would get back to me. He did eventually get back to me, telling me that he had sold it to the Guards Museum.
Are these the actions becoming of a Military Gentleman ? Personally i thought we had a Gentleman's agreement, however this answers the previous question. Andy Ps I have emails to prove the above.

Seems a bit unfortunate to sell it whilst still in negotiation with you, without checking if you could match the offer of the full price.
Perhaps he was swayed by the fact that the purchase was on behalf of the museum, where presumably it will be appreciated & given a good, secure home. I don't suppose that's full consolation. |

That makes the matter sound more unfortunate.

Hi Andy,
Sorry to hear that mate. I have had an up and down experience with this chap too. We had agreed to sell my something on his site but as he was abroad I had to wait. I repeated emailed him on his return back to the UK, months and months (now over a year) had gone by and still not a peep. Cheerio, Roy

If any consolation, read this book if you can ..it's a nice one!
https://www.amazon.in/English-Gentle...ibutes=desktop Still, I must say there are enough of them still around. Most UK dealers I have dealt with have been true to their word and allowed me to buy things on credit spread over several months..And a couple of them have actually posted me badges/medals without me paying an advance saying they know the money will come in eventually..it takes all kinds to make up this world.. |

This very much reminds me of a time l agreed to buy a badge at the price asked from someone called james militaria on this site only to hear after many messages that he had sold it to someone else who offered more money. This sort of behaviour shows the person has no integrity, his word is not his bond, and he cannot be trusted in any future transaction. Obviously money is more important than a good name!

Thanks for your reply's chaps. I hope to see this chap at a show. I'd like to call him a scumbag, but fear he may be offended. But yes no integrity whatsoever. Well done " The Military Gentleman " you good bloke you.

Hello Andy,
I don't understand, what were the Guards SBP's to do with the badge you wanted, or had he already sold the badge at the point you made the offer and he simply hoped you might like one of those instead? It is rather like going to the supermarket wanting a loaf of bread and being told to buy a tin of beans! Regards Frank |
