NB Tank officers?.....
Hi;
Are these badges marked sterling, or are they perhaps plated in silver? Possibly they are struck in WM, which has been polished? Are the lugs brass or same colour as the badges? If brass, perhaps the badges were struck in WM- if the same colour as the badges, I`d bet the badges are plated. Please clarify. Thanks! John S. |

I've had this set for many many years. This set is very detailed and heavy, the lugs on the backs are the same color as the badges. I don't see any marking on the backs, They are not plated, and are not WM. Maybe jeweler made? I was just curious if anyone else had or had seen a set of Officers NB Tank like this?

NB Tank officers?.....
mcleodg:
A jeweller can perform a simple test to establish if these badges are sterling, or something else which has been plated in silver,rhodium, chrome, etc. If in unmarked silver, then they are probably some sort of NB Regt Tank officers badges, but if they are plated or WM, I would guess that they might be an other ranks issue, done up this way possibly for the Regts` band members. To answer your specific question, I have heard of a "WM" issue existing for the NB Regt Tank, but believe that I have seen such a badge only once or twice in the past. Cheers, John S. |

The lugs on these badges appear to be longer than usual? And they appear, from the image to be plated. Lugs were made from copper wire, and if a badge was plated, the lugs were often plated as well.

N.B Tank badges silver or white metal
Quote:
either Full Dress or Field Dress for the Officers as the latter badges were permitted to be of gilt, sterling or bronzed construction; the fasteners would have been lugs, tangs or wheel locks; manufacturers' logos may or may not have been apparent; the plating of badges was accepted, depending on the commanding officer or the R.S.M.; My father enlisted with the N.B, Tanks in 1939 as did his brother; the latter served with the 19th reserve battalion of the said unit; any full dress or sterling badges would have been attributed to the reserve unit: the R.S.M. had gold plated badges. Hoping this information may be of help to the collector community; all the very best, Ronald LeBlanc Moncton, N.B. |
