Selous Scouts
Can someone please explain what goes on here: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Orig-Post-WW1-...3A1|240%3A1318
And by the way, exactly how do you pronounce Selous - is it as it's seen or is it "Seloo" Eddie |

I don't know if this one is good or not but, you should check his other items for sale because there are a few arab badges,Transjordan cap and collars, an Imperial Camel Corps, Aden Rifles and some other stuff from Sudan. Also it seems some interesting (and rare?) badges from New Zealand, Australia and India. If all those badges are real, well the former owner/collector was very lucky or was well traveled to have stockpiled all this.

It has a silent S. So Seloo would be correct. Regards Andrew

I've certainly seen his Arab stuff. All of it seems good, but he doesn't always get the ID right. The WW1 Arab Rifles is actually the Jordan National Guard of 1950s.

This is 100% legit.
They were originally an Armoured Car Regiment which then disbanded. When the bush war started the psuedo-ops group took the name. The Cap and Collars are rare. His descriptions can be a bit wayward (Tonga WW1 badge is from the 1980s) but it all looked OK to me - except the cast ones....... I got the TJFF Cap and the shoulder titles. Quote:

Hi,
An expensive trip to Trans Jordon! Looking at that cast Arab Legion - have you ever seen one of those, a real one I mean! And have you seen or heard of a "silver plated" AL "Officer's" badge? Eddie |

Eddie,
Hard to say really with cast stuff. During WW2 a lot of units got cast replacement stuff. Quality varies from well made jewelers stuff to "tankies" bored in the field (see my album with first pattern NZ Armoured badges). My gut feel is that this one looks OK for a cast version but I wouldnt pay too much for it. Cliff Lord has a mate who has an excellent Jordon collection - an old collector who doesnt do email. He has stuff he got straight from the unit in the 1950s and 60s - he would know about the officers silver badges - I will ask. Shaun |
