This from LRDG Rhodesia p. 110:
Made from sheet brass by Keay's Jewellers, Salisbury, numbered on the reverse.
Worn by Hugh Hein on the (left only?) shoulder with a backing, don't know what colour.

Rgds,
fougasse1940.

Hi, this badge is number 3025 in Owen's book. I have never seen an original or a fake of this badge before. It is very possible that there are fakes as many Rhodesian badges have been faked. I do not collect Rhodesian badges, so I wouldn't venture an oppinion on if it is good or not. Regards Andrew

I have an original in my collection. The one on eBay is good. The latest version of LRDG Rhodesia has a photo of it worn on page 223. It was worn on the LHS sleave.

Default Southern Rhodesia Commando

Hello all

I agree that the badge on E-bay is correct.
I have No 492 in my Rhodie collection.
Originals carry striations at rear of badge. The numbers are distinctive especially the numeral 4 which is half sized and does not form a point at the front of the 4.
Happy hunting
Dave

I also believe these would be hard to copy as the are typical of locally made Rhodie WW2 badges - thinly struck out of sheet brass or silver with hand formed lugs. I will scfan some examples and post.

Nice pics chaps. and I can see the similarities that I guess would be hard to reproduce.

Hi all.My SR Cdo badge is numbered 215 and the smaller silver version 194.Ive seen a few of these over the years and all unmistakable as being made by Keays Jewellers Salisbury.Only variation seen of this badge was the number engraved by machine as opposed to hammer stamped, this on a normal badge.Years ago i did see a very well made 'copy' of the badge with black inlay paint between the letters.Regards,Craig.

Hello Chingola
Can you post a photo of the silver badge?
Cheers

These Rhodesia Signals badges come in facing collar pairs with the Zim birds facing inwards.Theyve used the brass badge with silver flags cut out and placed on top of the brass flags turing it into a bi metal badge. There is also a Signalman proficiency badge in brass made by Keays which is two crossed flags in same style as the cap badge but much larger with the hand made lugs on rear.
