Default The Beaver Club, London 1940

See below appended an illustration of 'The Beavers Club, 1940, London' enamelled pin-backed badge bearing makers marks 'J.R. Gaunt, London'.

I believe that the Beavers Club was established in 1940 and located near Trafalagar Square, London, where Canadian service personnel could avail of canteen and home media services when off-duty.

Can anyone shed any light on how the badge was worn, and by whom - presumably both Canadian and locally employed voluntary civilian staff ?

It would be nice to see any illustrations of the badge being worn in uniform.

Any information shared will be appreciated.

Yours aye,
Mark

Hello, my grandmother worked at the Beaver Club during WW II, and was presented with a fine certificate and badge, (with Bar) in recognition of her work. William Lloyd.

If they wore this on a uniform, it would be a no-no. Maybe like the Caterpillar Club pin, it might be put on the underside of a collar or pocket flap so it wouldn't be visible.

This photo from Canada Archives shows a group of Canadian soldiers in the Beaver Club, 1943, but no pins visible.

Maybe a staff only pin rather than a membership pin?

Default Beaver Club

During research for a book on British Home Front lapel badges I was told by a former volunteer at the club that the badge was issued to them for identification and worn on an overall.

Another variation of the badge has been sold on ebay.

All members were issued with a membership card like the one attached

Default Beaver Club

The building no longer exists, but there are images of the interior of the club. Here is one that I have on file showing RCAF personnel enjoying the games room.

My step-great-grandfather Bert had a similar badge but it was blue enamel on the outer ring, not silver. I believed he worked at the club during the war, but I don't know in what capacity. I have it in my collection of family bits.
