Red face Liverpool Pals?

Bought this one off ebay, photo was not too good but was with some other early (pre 1922) Irish badges listed by the same seller, I won a few and I am more than happy with them!

This one I thought was brass or bronze from the listing photograph and as it was only a few quid and the seller offered a discount on postage for more than one item, I went for it and won!!!

On receipt I was more than happy with the detail, which is far better than a lot of the copies I've seen. It is heavy, brownish grey in colour and I was not sure if brass or bronze. (It has since proven to be silver!).

The detail is nice and crisp and it is thick and well made however the lugs are on the small side and there is no Hallmark. (please be assured that this is for my own collection and I will not be selling it on to buy a car! lol).

Your thoughts please - Andy!

It looks like Pattern 8520/1915 which was the first Lpl Pals OR pattern of late 1915. It does look brass/bronze to me - particularly the loops. This pattern, which then appeared as shallow cast and finally die struck was superseded by Pattern 9483/1917 (of May 1917) which specified a slider.

I agree that there might be some sort of "mark" on the left reverse, but if it really is silver then I think it can only be a sweetheart's brooch.

I think I'm convinced it is a "badge" (preferable to a brooch to me). Can you say what proof you have that it is silver !?

Julian, mark to rear is where I rubbed the surface, I've since cleaned a very small area of the edge and it is definately silver, so even if a copy it has some value!

Default L'pool Pals

Hi Andy,

We used to have a saying in Brum.......if you fell off Rackhams, you'd land on your feet ????

No Rackhams any more but you are certainly landing upright just lately ??

Nice one.

Dave.
