More Shoulder Titles
Please could anyone help me identify these. The RNB and the YTP are made of letters soldered to horizontal bars. Think the RNB is Royal Naval Band although I haven't given up hope it might be the Royal Naval Brigade. YTP has a slightly American feel. If the SLI really is Shropshire LI then I'm guessing it's fake. Think PSI could be South African.

SLI could be Saskatoon Light Infantry.

The PSI title has the look of Boer War/WWI South African type titles but I don't know what it could be.

Agree with Phil. The S.L.I title is characteristic of Canadian manufacture, and was the type worn by the Saskatoon Light Infantry.

More Shoulder Titles
Hi!
Firstly, Naval Brigades of the Royal Navy didn't wear shoulder titles. They weren't a separate organisation - they were simply sailors from whatever ships were available and who were sent ashore to fight as soldiers. They wore their normal naval uniforms when doing so. In the late-19th century there was a specialist naval band service. Members of the Royal Naval Band Service did have a unique (distinctly un-naval!) uniform but this didn't include metal shoulder titles. The Royal Naval Band Service was replaced by the Royal Marines Band Service in the 1900s and the Royal Marines now provide the music for the Royal Navy on formal occassions. Volunteers Bands on ships and in shore establishments continued after the 1900s and still exist today. Those on ships wear their normal naval uniforms. Those ashore can be made up of naval personnel, dockyard police and even civilians. Serving personnel and police officers wear their normal uniform. The civilians wear a Volunteer Band uniform based on Royal Navy uniform. No-one wears a metal shoulder title Pete Last edited by Guzzman; 08-10-20 at 07:30 AM. Reason: Added additional information |

Hi MarkGD, the titles were authorized in 1928, but there were two patterns (SLI and SASK LI / MG). The SASK LI were changed to an MG battalion in the 1936 re-organization of the militia, so the SLI titles were like prior to that date. They may have been worn again after the war.
