Precise definition of "sealed"
Hi All,
K&K frequently (at least in Vol 2) refer to badges being "Sealed on [such and such a date]" What precisely does "sealed" mean? - The regiment started wearing the badges? - Some department agreed on the design and sent it over to a manufacturer? - A manufacturer first started producing the badges? - Dress regulations were updated? - etc... Thanks, Tom |

Here is my working description to go with my album showing many sealed patterns from the last 60 years. Other members will be able to provide a more precise definition.

Pattern Cards
Here is an example of a nice early Pattern Card dated 1901 (54Bty collection) and a more recent one dated 1970 (my collection).
Showing that the card design changed very little in 70+ years until replaced by labels (see examples in albums). Tim

The 'sealing' is ... done! As in this is the final / sealed pattern (look at the examples above)
There are usually about 12 sent out Sealed Cards tendering to various manufacturers. If you're lucky you might find the winning manufacturers on the reverse of the Sealed Cards. In brief to your questions; the answers are YES, YES, YES, YES Last edited by KLR; 05-10-21 at 05:07 PM. |

The early card is a little misleading, the "vertical shank" part has been added and the earlier date remains.

Nonetheless it shows that the layout of Sealed Pattern cards was little changed for 70+ years. Subsequently cards were replaced by labels. See albums for examples. Tim
