Default GHQ Middle East Land Forces Cyprus c1955-59

I attach a scan which I have been sent which purports to be the above. Can anyone confirm this, and can anyone say where in Cyprus the HQ was located, please?
Cole's books Heraldry in War and Badges on Battledress don't seem to have this in them. Both show versions of the camel sign for this formation.
I would appreciate any information.

The identification is correct. I believe that the sign was adopted when GHQ MELF relocated to Episkopi in Cyprus, probably in 1955, the camel being deemed to be no longer appropriate.

In 1955 the Cyprus garrison was considerably enlarged by the arrival of GHQ MELF from Egypt who had already pointed out that a move to Cyprus would render their camel formation sign inappropriate. The new sign was quickly approved as MELF wished to adopt it by 1st December 1954 when Main General HQ opened in Nicosia. There is no record of whether they achieved this aim!

From a National Archives file.

Hope it helps

Jon
