Default E. Yorks 50th Div.

Appears to be wearing a collar badge on his beret!

Default Collars in caps . . !

It seems that some officers wore collar badges in their caps during WWII, I first became aware of this when Sir Vivien Fuchs BD came up for sale in the early 1980's at Kent sales, he wore a G/M Cambridgeshire collar badge in his F/S cap.

Some time later I bought a Cambridgeshire OSD with blades which was the same as the collar without a scroll.

I am aware that some units wore collar badges on certain forms of head dress, particularly during WW2, but this is a new one on me. It would seem there was a fondness for miniaturization.

An illustration of an officer of 2nd Bn East Yorks at the time of the Normandy landings, from Mike Chapell's "Badges on Battledress vol. 2".

Reduction of badge size was certainly occurring post WWII with the introduction of the "beret badges" for some units (Allan O has pointed out that these badges weren't intended just for wear in the beret but other forms of headress too).

The Cambs Regt OSD badge with tangs and without scroll - possibly worn on the khaki FSC then do you think?

Here's a Notts & Derby collar worn on a red beret and either this actual badge or the spare?

Could be the actual badge, as it's mate would have the antelope facing the wrong way.
Having said that, I have a 1950's R Innis Fus officer's caubeen and his beret which have a mirror image pair of collar badges on them.

Leigh,
I have no photographic evidence of this apart from Sir Vivien Fuchs F/S cap which was bought by a guy from Norfolk who I knew years back, I think it changed hands since he bought it, possibly by another collector I knew.
My OSD was bought some time later at Bedford minus a blade which was replaced later.
