6th & 8th Hampshire and Hampshire & IOW Territorials
I have a question regarding the cap and collar badges worn by these battalions.
Are my following assumptions correct? 1) 6th Hampshire (Duke of Connaughts Own) officers wore their own specific type of collar badge (based upon the cap badge) whilst with the Hampshire Regt. They continued to wear these when the were transferred to the Royal Artillery. OR's initially wore the cap badge and shoulder titles and eventually wore the collar badge at a later time. 2) 8th Hampsire (IOW Rifles) officers wore a version of the cap badge on their collars in WW1 and then wore RA collars with the IOW Rifles cap badge when they transferred to the Royal Artillery just prior to WW2. All ranks continued to use the IOW Rifles cap badge whilst in the RA and OR's eventually wore RA collars. 3) Hampshire and IOW Territorials; all companies wore the same staybrite cap badge and were identified by the respective collar badges (A and E Coy wearing standard Royal Hants and 7th Royal Hants collars respectively, B Coy wearing Duke of Connaught's Own collars, C Coy RA collars and D Coy RE collars). |

No3 is the correct assumption. Im not sure which company was which. There was a card for sale somewhere a while back,it had each companies collar on.
I mention this as it had the "dog gauge" anodised collar on it,which is pretty scarce. There maybe mention of it in the anodised section. |
