Default Blackened Army Cyclist Corps

I acquired this in a job lot of badges. I have not seen ACC blackened before so any help with right or restrike gratefully received.

Thanks Mark

Default Army Cyclists

Mark, has it been blackened or does it just want a good clean?

These badges if original would be over 100 years old and may have picked up a lot of grime.

A thought.

Rob,

A sound thought but it’s definitely blackened rather than patina.

All the best Mark

I am unaware of any cyclist unit which blackened its badges and have never seen a photo of anything other than a brass one. The cyclists were mostly UK based involved in home defence so 'tactical' blackening was not a thing.

There is plenty of photographic evidence for the 7th Welsh (Cyclists) wearing blackened cap badges & shoulder titles.

Indeed but they wore the Welsh badge and not the Cyclist Corps badge.

It’s not a repro.

Unable to help with why it’s been blackened but the finish certainly appears to have age.

One to hang onto and not be tempted to clean methinks.

Perhaps a photo will turn up one day.
