Badge manufacturers

OK lads, I have been driving myself nuts over the markings on the back of an Irish Regt badge. It is a fairly modern constructed badge. Has a slider and the overlays are sort of peened? in place. to the right of the badge on the reverse is what I believe to be the maker mark, EVCO 80.

Any thoughts or ideas?? I am finally getting off my behind and trying to ID some of more current manufacturers but so far not much luck.

If you google it the company is a US plastics one that probably picked up the contract ??

I have a number of post-unification Canadian badges with the EVCO mark. Other manufacturers for the period include Scully, Breadner and C. Lamond et Fils.

Hi Paul, I had done the Google Search and found the US plastics company was hit the most times. I have not ruled them out but I didn't see on their site where they did metal work. I did see plastics and resins but not metals.
I had feared the badges may have been produced 'offshore' (read Taiwan etc.) as there were also a number of hits for EVCO products and such but the company sites are far too "flash oriented" for my poor old dial up connection to load correctly.

Phillip, I have seen many Scully made post-unification badges and the odd Lamond et Fils. I don't recall off hand Breadner, but I will have to look deeper.

Do you think the "80" after the EVCO is the year the badge was produced? I wonder about that, as I am trying to finally date some of the Post '53 Irish Badges I have.

I have no doubt that "80" indicates the year of manufacture.
I have enough of the "EVCO" badges in my own collection to believe it is/was a Canadian company. From what I can see on the internet, EVCO is a very common name.
It is/was DND policy to use Canadian contractors, but EVCO could have had their badges made offshore. This would be no different than in the "old" days when JR Gaunt made badges in England for the Canadian Army.

Sometime after unification, all badge runs were to be dated on the badge. This was part of the contract process.

I have, on two occasions, bought lots of 100 badges for my son's cadet corps - GGFG. I contracted with a private company in Gatineau, Quebec and received badges identical to those they supplied to DND. None of these badges is marked or dated in any way. If other units/cadet corps/individuals ever 'contracted' privately with a manufacturer then these badges will surface years from now and further confuse our poor little community.
