Seaforth Highlanders's "CUIDICH'N RIGH" badge with backing plus two others
Hi all,
Picking these up tommorow, I was wondering about the backing on the Seaforth Highlanders badge, would this have been off a WW1 or WW2 hat? I have another similar badge but don't have one with this backing, I like the look of it It looks the same as these ones: http://www.ebay.com/itm/CANADA-CEF-c...item53ea107e2e http://www.ebay.com/itm/Original-Sea...item1c20ca1d4a Thanks! |

The stag cap badge appears to be a Second World War Seaforth Highlanders. It could also be the Pictou Highlanders. The Seaforth's had the pattern with the L in the antlers, but they did not like it and adopted the style without the L. Some were broke out of the Seaforth pattern, but others obtained the Pictou pattern. They both had the MacKenzie tartan, but I am not sure if they wore it in the same orientation behind the badge.

I thought the common wisdom said Seaforths with 4 lugs, WWI; 3 lugs, British; 2 lugs WWII.

David is correct, how many lugs does your badge have?

Hi again,
I actually picked up two of the badges- the small one I posted before has 2 lugs, the other one I purchased has three and has a different tartan backing. |

The larger badge on the right shows the correct orientation of the tartan backing as worn by the Seaforth Highlanders of Canada and also by the Pictou Highlanders.
Perhaps the smaller badge on the left shows the tartan backing as worn by the British Seaforths??? |
