Default Shropshire Yeomanry in Silver..!

Hi Gents,

Well I was pleased to have a lovely find just arrive - a non-voided and lugged version of the Shropshire Yeomanry cap badge die-struck in silver and with a small 'silver' mark to the rear.

I can't recall having seen a silver example, so rather pleased with this find.

I'm grasping at straws a little as this badge was long used without variation but I was wondering if any of the experienced members would have any idea of period based on the construction ?

Maybe you have a similar badge to another unit which is more easily dateable and similare construction i.e. die-struck silver, silver lugs, marked etc?

Cheerio,

Roy

Im not a fan of the crown, it doesn't look uniform. Is it silver Roy, have you done a test, i.e. dragging it across white paper.
Regards
Andy

Hi Andy,

The crown looks fine, might just be the angle of my photo.

And 'yes' it tests as silver.

Cheers,

Roy

Hi Roy,
I do hope to be proven wrong but I am with Andy in questioning the quality of an item that should be top quality. There is a seller on ebay, badgeman, that sells any number of silver cap badges and all marked as in your example. None of them are genuine issue badges.
Hwyl,
Kevin

Roy
Anything marked this way I always avoid I would expect either a
full set of proof mark's or non at all on older badges.

Sincerely

Stephen

Hi Gents,

Thanks for all your comments, good and bad.

I'm very well aware of the badgeman fakes out there and don't believe this to be one. I'm happy with this one as the quality is good and it is die-stuck properly. There is nothing about the construction of this gives me pause but I will keep an open mind.

Cheers,

Roy

I am sorry but the design is not right. The 1908 pattern was solid with a shield behind the loggerheads. The shield was later removed but the badge was then voided. This solid but shieldless design is a fake and has been copied by badgeman in silver.

Roy,

I don't post much these days but feel strongly enough to reply that I am not a fan of this. It does not look like an item of quality to me as it should be.
