Thanks. Dot dash is entirely new to me. The OP badge is also a nice one.

Seems I've released a new descriptive term to relate to GMGR badges.

Well, I certainly would not have any issues with it, they are not badges that I had ever regarded as anything really special, but, they are certainly very well made as well as being very distinctive with the material used, there is little in the way of significant variation.
I never cease to be amazed by the prices now being sought, I suspect rather more money than an average Thomas Atkins had ever seen in his own life by 1918. |

I know about crimps (I have lots) but I'm not sure what / where is the dot please?

The "dot" would be the smaller portion of the mark on it's left hand side, the "dash" being the rest of it on the right hand side.

GMGR
Well thanks to some very poor photography from Lockdales I joined the GMGR club today.
Pleasingly this one I believe has actually been worn. It also exhibits the unique dot dash crimp. A good day all round. |

I thought at 1st glance it was missing a gun muzzle but looks like it is shaped to the cap. Well done Luke. Regards, Paul.

These badges appear to be made by the same method as OSD badges, not die stamped as typical OR badges are.

Not used to Lockdales site and not finding the badge- can someone give a link? Regards, Paul.

Thanks Paul. Yes it’s intact but shaped to fit the cap, one of the reasons I think it was worn.

Thanks for the links. Not good pictures but the slider shape was clear even if the alpha dot dash was not. Very good buy from an auction sale Luke. Without comparison I still find some copies hard to call without seeing the slider. Regards, Paul.

Even I wasn’t 100% from the back with the slider shape. I felt it probably was good but as there are some very good copies of these I’d not have risked bidding without more.
Thankfully Lockdales obliged with some better photos and luckily for me they didn’t add them to the listing otherwise I’m sure it would’ve been obvious to many it was a good one. That all the other individual badge lots they had were dross no doubt helped too. My lucky day I guess after a long wait. |
