It's blue (sorry, no photos to hand, I'm refering to the forage cap but do you mean the coloured field service cap?).

It is the No1 Dress Coloured Service Cap - No2 Dress Cap is the Officers Khaki Visor Cap.

Only issued to Warrant Officers (WO2 & WO1) & Officers. The headdress for 'Other Ranks' with No2 Dress is the Beret.

No1 Dress and No1 Dress Caps are issued from a loan pool for OR's 'as required'

Thanks button. It is of course the No 1 dress cap. I never liked the wearing of berets with No 2 dress as kit always looked odd - RM and airborne hats aside of course.

I know that this thread is for RLC but during my 24 years service with the Royal Engineers we always wore the attached hat which we referred to as either a No1 dress hat or No2 dress hat and I cannot remember ever wearing my beret while in No 2 dress.

No its mainly an RLC Dress thing only to wear a blue beret with No2 Dress

Royal Signals have been known to do it - mainly when there was a shortage of hats as Dress Regs do specify the blue hat is to be worn.

Royal Signals officers now wear the blue hat even when they are not wearing leathers and medals. The khaki hat was removed about 5 years ago which up to then would have been worn with Service dress when not wearing leathers and medals.

There was a thread on forum some while ago showing an image of a RLC photographer at a parade or function, he was wearing the dark blue beret with "Blues", conjecture was that he was perhaps wearing a beret as it was more practical than a peaked cap for a "phot" to wear.

I've found the thread (and it looks like the "conjecture" was just mine).

And then there is the Royal Tank Regiment, Special Air Service, Army Air Corps and Intelligence Corps wearing their berets in all orders of dress.
