operation Warden badge
Good morning,
I need your advice about the 'Operation Warden Incirlik' badge. Is it worn by RAF personnel of the base ? Laurent |

It is a typical shape for USAF patches and looks like it may be theatre made.
I'm unsure as to the number (4) as I think only 54 Sqn RAF were involved in enforcing the Northern no fly zone. Operating from Incirlik airbase in Turkey in '91. I would suggest a USAF Sqn/wing commemorative patch (4 Sqn/wing?) Craig |

If this badge was for 4 Sqn Harriers then I would expect it to be IV not 4, as that is how the Squadron numeral appears on their Badge. However it must be a British item due to the term Operation Warden, which was the UK designation for Operation Northern Watch as the Spams called it, not to mention the union flag. So the idea of a tour rotation badge seems good. In any case this type of badge would only have been worn on overalls and maybe flying suits Laurent.

Ha! Well found - I retract my first statement as 4 Sqn were there.

You could be right as I have just found this these badges on the net. The subject badge also has a right to left lightning flash.
