Default WRAC shoulder strap?

Hello,

Could anyone please tell me if this is a genuine WRAC item, and if so what uniform did it come from? I suspect it is not as I cannot find anything to compare with it, and am leaning to it being something 'made up' for a theatre/prop/kids uniform etc? Your thoughts please, many thanks.

The only thing it might be off is their truly unique Mess Dress.

It was affectionly known as 'the curtain'

On a size 8 size footer - it was stunning. However on the shorter tubbier officers it was not so flattering....

The RAF 'Blue Tube' mess dress was a rival for unflattering the 'larger ladies'

From "Soldier" magazine, March 1974.
I think Post Warden may have posted this photo and info on the forum or in a fairly recent edition of The Formation Sign".

One of most scary experiences was being propositioned by a huge RAF Midwife in an blue tube which was as they say 'touching in all the wrong places' - she was older, taller and much wider than me. I ran away like an episode of Benny Hill......the night sweats continued for some time.

I'm guessing she would have folded you up like a deckchair and carried you off under her arm

Oh well, at least we never had that problem in the NAAFI - more likely to get a smack in the mouth for dancing with the wrong lady's girlfriend.
Your experience does remind me of SAGA holidays though.......

As a VERY young Sgt in HQ BAOR, I ventured into the WRAC Sgts' Mess (Irreverently called (Cock Snatchers' Arms), and when asked by a rather rotund Sgt what I would like for a drink, replied "a beer, please". She ordered a pint and a half, and gave me the half!!!
