Julian has located the s/p for the fixing. 1915 were with vertical shanks.
That won't allow me to view it ?

It's Julian (KLR) who deserves the thanks from me for researching the dates from the archives.

The "vertical shank" (popularly "sliders") was introduced in March 1906 !
Yes, Toby I do have the dates / details - I was somewhere elsewhere..............

For me, it's not just the collecting - it's the research - generally, but particularly KLR)!

If you go to the National Archives and go into WO 359 Royal Army Clothing Department, Records of Changes; Vols 1 - 21,

You will find every badge you want........dates, details etc etc

Hello Julian, good to link up here again, given our concurrent chat by email. That 1906 date would coincide with the introduction of peaked forage caps, or not long afterwards. I’m aware of it as the date for sliders on line and other arms cap badges and reflecting specifically the change from the Brodrick cap to the universal coloured forage cap (and subsequently drab SD cap). The particular issue here (not sure if you’ve read all the thread) is the Foot Guards alone, whose caps were different and with their cap badge positioned higher up the front. It would be helpful to compare the specifications for all the Foot Guards. Did you keep the notes for them?

Just to be clear that date and reference refers to sliders in general Andy.

I have the pages 1 to 70 of anodised aluminium badges list of changes and can see that the Welsh Guards alone changed to slider in 1951 with alteration in 1953, Alan, but I can’t find the Pattern reference 8387/1915 that you refer to. On what page is it please, or is it a different document (I’m going cross eyed squinting at ream after ream)?

Are the War Office records incorrect then?
