Reading and studying the badges (and plates) in this thread for starters will help.

As Alex says there are a great many threads on here on the topic of RNDs. They should be relatively easy to find using the search function.

Since there are often multiple fake dies for each Battalion the best approach is learning what makes a good one so you can discount all others.

Bar the RND MGC Gaunt are a known and accepted manufacturer, but be warned as their makers plaques have faked and added to repros. Just tonight Endici has listed a duff Hood with such a plate.

The three RND articles on Arnhem Jim’s blog spot on this topic including one where I proposed alternate manufactures may also be of use and interest.
