Waist belt device
Hi All, can anyone tell me exactly what this item is. Described as a ' waist belt device '. Well made item with 4 hex lugs.Measures 55mm wide x 54mm high.

It is what you say, a device fitted to a rectangular WBC of an officer in the Royal Engineers and also seen in the RA.

Hi Simon, please forgive my ignorance - so this would fit to a belt fastening device...do you have any photos of 1 in use ?

The device, as Simon says, would go onto a waist belt plate [generic], held in place by two long or four short cotter pins. The plates themselves are generic and each regimen/corps adds it's own regimental device. An example of a rather more ornat RE plate is attached - Victorian - but you can see how it works: pop out pins, remove device, clean and polish, reassemble. |
