Two cap badges WWII?

As my 1st posting on this forum (I have used the Great War forum for WWI issues) I'm posting 2 photos from friends for help with unit ID if possible please.
In the photo of the 2 men the badge on the rh one is at an angle but may be identifiable. The 2nd photo is pretty clear so that one may be easier.

First one is Pioneer Corps. See below.

Edit: I just realised that his shoulder title is readable too

Edit 2: Both men are wearing the same insignia on their arms, so both are Pioneers.

The second one is The Royal Marines.

The first one is mid-late war judging by the cloth insignia. The chap on the left has the exposed buttons of an economy tunic rather than the type worn in 1939-40 at initial issue.

The RM may be early war as he has a gasmask case on and a pre-war issue Blues jacket.

What about the open collars and ties? And the unusual chest pocket buttons?

The duo on the left look too well fed to be wartime British.

Collars and ties for ORs were officially authorised at the end of the war but sometimes worn beforehand for 'walking out' and photos as in this case.
