Smile Home Guard titles

Jon, I am not an expert on anything in particular and Home Guard titles are no exception, but these look the same as titles that I have had for a good many years and I would say they are original.

As to value, as always IMO whatever someone will pay for them as collectors items, maybe other HG specialists could be of more help.

Regards Rob

Default HG titles

Jon, most of the Home Guard titles that were worn seem to be the printed type. Whether these were worn is beyond my knowledge.

Battle dress arrived in the Home Guard during the winter of 1940/41. The offical issue, printed/painted shoulder titles did not start arriving until April or May 1941.

In the meantime many units bought titles like those shown from local shops who had spotted a marketing opportunity. They exist with a range of coloured letters and also with seriffed letters. In some areas the letter colour indicated separate battalions within Zones.

Yours all appear to be from the period.

Jon

Having stared intently at the screen during a Dad's Army repeat on the BBC last night, the top one looks like the version worn on their costumes.

I was thinking private purchase, they do look be nice quality. A lot of very random badges, insignia etc. as well as ranking structure. So a huge possibly they are privately done.
