Default Royal Engineers Militia

Hi All,

would there have been a GR VI Royal Engineers Militia; I know there was an ER VII and a GR V as in pic

RE RM GRV.jpg

Thanks in advance

Iain

Hello Iain, As a collector of RE badges (and an ex RE never a ex Sapper)
I have never come across a GV1R cap badge with the "M"
I have several that are either white metal or chromed BUT you never know, some faker may produce one.

Jerry

Perhaps I'm picking this up wrong, but did you not post pictures of four GVIR Militia badges in your collection in a thread some time back. Two at least were Malta and Bermuda Militia I think in g/m.

They've definately been faked though and I remember your post as I'd just picked up a possible ringer. However, I'd like to think this officer's gilt badge is the real deal.

All the best
Mark

Mark, Thanks for bumping my old memory awake. Yes I do have those badges.
I had totally forgot about them (wot a plonker) My apologies to all.
I keep them in a separate tray from the other GV1R badges.
I have 6 of these with 1 in Bronze(bladed) 4 in G/M(slider & lugs) & 1 cast.
I do not have a officer gilt version myself.
Your officer badge looks OK to me.
Again apologies to all & thanks again Mark,

Jerry

I'll let Jerry answer, but I will say yours appears to be from the same die as the dubious one I picked up. The main point of doubt for me was that on other militia badges I have the letter M is fixed to the badge with a pin or small rivet which is brazed in place on the rear - there was no sign of this on my ringer.

My doubt being further reinforced as it doesn't have much relief (fairly flat) and the slider looks modern.

I still have it in my RE collection, but will replace it as soon as I see something that better ticks my boxes.

Sorry for the late reply, I have been in & out all day enjoying the fine weather here in Southern England.
I agree with Mark that it looks a bit "dodgy" but it will make a space filler until you get a better example.

Thanks to you both, I also thought the slider lacked use
