Smile 1st Volunteer Battalion Durham Light Infantry

The other week on eBay I had a watching interest in a 1st Volunteer Battalion Durham Light Infantry cap badge, Kings Crown, Edwardian era, lugged and silver in appearance.

It went for just shy of 90 pounds.

I am still kicking myself as I collect to the DLI but just didn't want to be spending that sort of money at that time, isn't it always the way.

Anyway the lament is...are these that rare? have other collectors seen these for sale?

A rambling thought.

Cheers Dean.

It should be over 100 years old and would have been issued for about three years so they are not that common. I always feel pleased if I can pick up a VB for less than £70. There are those more expert than myself and they can tell you more about certain regiments.

Yes Matti I agree that a badge with a limited issue date will attract a fairly high price and I think that if you can get them for under the 70 pound mark then all is well, cheers and I will keep looking, Dean

I bought my first VB East Surreys last year and it is a delight to own. VBs do come up quite regularlso keep an eye on Bosleys and the reputable dealers. £70+ will be the going rate. If you are not sure about a particular item mention it here on the forum and there will be a Durham specialist amongst us who can help and advise.

1st VB's of most regiments do tend to be more common than some of their higher number counterparts. I have been lucky with a few cheapies from time to time but these days when something comes up I want, if I can afford it I'll buy it as with these items now being 100+years old they're pretty thin on the ground.

I keep meaning to put my KLR VB cap badges up in an album. I agree with what Keith says; I've seen a few KLR 1VB and 6VB, 8VB (QVC) is not so rare either.

Yes the VB badges have a great look to them and that era was a splendid one for badges in my opinion. I have a couple and with a better digital camera will make a better album than my last boer war effort. Will look out for some VB badges and thanks to all for pointers, cheers Dean.
