Durham Berlin Insignia
Hi all,
Long time between Durham posts.
I picked this up from a dealer in the UK after a kind tip off from KLR (aka Julian). Worn by Durham Light Infantry soldiers serving in Berlin 1946. Part of combination insignia worn on the shoulder (that I did not purchase) as a Durham Light Infantry embroider title of white lettering on black backing above the word COMMONWEALTH below a King's crown on a white cloth shield above the badge pictured below of a standard DLI KC cap badge type worn on a black cloth roundel with BERLIN in red letters above. The red roundel and BERLIn is illustrated in Brian Davis's book "British Army Cloth Insignia" figure 165 and is described as British Troops, Berlin, 2nd pattern, silk-woven by machine. The first pattern being figure 162 without the BERLIN title.
The cap badge is shaped to fit the backing to give a domed appearance. The difference in the cap badge is that it is lugged east-west.
Something different for me, cheers Dean.
