Default unknown badge or plaque?

hi all
any ideas what this item may be?
not a badge i'm guessing but looks like the victorian volunteer engineers sabretache badge.
its about 10cm x 10cm and flat.
very well made

You are correct in that it is not a military badge, sabretache or otherwise.

It is most probably as you suggest a Royal Arms plaque from something made of wood.

It could be anything from a box to a carriage.

I have had one of these for some time and have often wondered what it is. I recently found a scan of a complete one which is buried in my files somewhere, will try to find it. and post it later.
