Default Interesting Middlesex

Good afternoon

This badge has a small M on the scroll on the obverse just above the gt of REGT and the coronet is wrapped around the sides of the badge for attachment. The slider looks repaired. Is this genuine? Is M the makers mark? And any idea of the date?

Many thanks

Hello Martyn

No problem with your badge, just another variant. The slider is original to the badge, but I can't help with the "M".

Here is a link to an earlier post

Good afternoon and many thanks Andy for your having a look and commenting. I will look at that link in a minute. It is a nice badge I think and I only spotted the M yesterday. There is one more on the net which is I suppose dates to c ww1. My gut feeling is ww2. The construction is interesting and we'll executed.

Regards

Martyn

I have a Middlesex badge with the M on the scroll, mine is brass that has been plated in the places where it should have White metal overlays, it is also plated on the back in my mind it could be an officers badge but I not at all sure.

Many thanks. I'm thinking that it is a manufacturer or type marking of some sort. I wander if M indicated the method of production: the wrapped around coronet.... Does yours use this method of assembly?

Cheers

Martyn

I think it may well be the die sinker's initial. Some Welsh Guards badges have an initial on one of the fronds.
