26th Middlesex (Cyclists) RV Cross Belt or Pouch badge
Hi all,
I believe this to be a 26th Middlesex (Cyclists) Rifle Volunteers cross belt or pouch badge. It measures 86x54mm and is WM with three screw posts for attaching to the cross belt or pouch. It was sold as an NCO's version, post-1908. I have seen a silver version (sold at auction) described as an Officer's cross belt plate. Formed 11th February 1888 at Ashley Place being the first volunteer corps raised exclusively for a cyclist roll. Originally allotted to King’s Royal Rifle Corps as a VB it transferred to the Rifle Brigade in 1889 until 1893 when attached to 12th Civil Service Middlesex Rifle Volunteers. 1st April 1908 transferred to the new Territorial Force as 25th (County of London) (Cyclist) Battalion of the London regiment. Be interested in dating this badge. Regards Dean. |

26th Middlesex
Good morning.
And then there were two: http://www.gnmilitaria.co.uk/viewphoto.php?shoph=13071 Although, Mr Newman's attribution does not quite accord with your own. Not really my thing, just stumbled across it while looking for something else! Enjoy. S.T. |

Thanks S.T had not seen this from Geoff,
His attribution fits. Middlesex Rifle Volunteers. Scarce white metal N.C.O.'s cross-belt plate, worn by the 26th Middlesex Rifle Volunteers [Customs and Docks Battalion]. A Ducal coronet on a strap bearing the motto, Pro Libertate Patriae, around a shield with three lions of Middlesex. Three screw bolt fittings to the reverse with one original nut. Cheers Dean. |
